NTAGGL Scholarship Award Program
May 2012
Members and Associate Members
North Texas Association of Government Guaranteed Lenders (NTAGGL)
Last year you challenged us to organize an educational “Scholarship Award Program” that will enable NTAGGL to provide economic assistance to eligible persons who need financial help with the high cost of education who reside in the state of Texas with special scoring preference given to applicants residing in one of 72 counties of the SBA District that we service in North Texas.
NTAGGL has partnered with the First Command Educational Foundation (FCEF) to award local students scholarship funds for attending college.
First Command has been providing scholarships in the U.S for over 27 years and has awarded over $3.7 million dollars in scholarships to over 2000 students. The Foundation awards scholarships to students all over the nation, averaging approximately $175,000.00 per year for higher education.
The NTAGGL Partnership with First Command Educational Foundation offers many benefits including the funding process and complete management and the funding and IRS reporting. This year 2012 NTAGGL in partnership with First Command Educational Foundation will provide six $1,000.00 scholarships to deserving applicants who qualify under the eligibility rules of the program. The process involves five Selection Committee Members carefully chosen by the Scholarship Committee who will review and score each application using the approved review/scoring system outlined by NTAGGL.
NTAGGL’s application awards are for those seeking degrees in “Social Sciences”, “Business Degrees” and “Banking/Finance Degrees”. Award recipients are required to take an on-line course (free) offered by First Command Educational Foundation of Basic Finances 4 ALL, a course that offers a broad range of everyday “need to know” information for most people and families. The course includes charge accounts, checkbook management, understanding credit, loans, rights and responsibilities, buying, stocks & investments, retirement, insurance, bankruptcy, giving entrepreneurship.
The above course is required prior to submitting an application for scholarship assistance. The course is easy to access on line and one that anyone can take but one of great value.
Thanks to the members and associate members of NTAGGL and the NTAGGL Scholarship Committee, we are very proud to award six $1,000 scholarships for the fall 2012 – 2013 year.
Sincerely,
